Excerpt from review in The North American Anglican: “In the end, Sing Unto the Lord succeeds at what it sets out to do: creating a hymnal for ACNA contemporary language worship.

If an ACNA parish is looking to replace an existing hymnal, Sing Unto the Lord is the best replacement for the Hymnal 1982 offering updated ACNA mass texts, dropping some of the more questionable Hymnal ’82 hymns, while adding a large assortment of new hymns.

Overall, Sing Unto the Lord seems like it should be the default choice for a new contemporary language Anglican parish, both for the new hymns and for the better fit in worship with the 2019 edition of the ACNA prayer book.”

Hymns

At the heart of Sing Unto the Lord are 740 hymns representing the best selections from The Hymnal 1940, The Hymnal 1982, and Hymns Ancient and Modern, as well as many rich new hymns written in the past 40 years. We’ve included only the best texts and tunes, hymns that are highly singable and time-tested.

Service Music

The comprehensive Service Music section includes ten Communion Settings spanning the 16th century to the present day. Also included are several excellent new settings, all with highly-singable melodies and tasteful pairings of texts and tunes. All other topical sections of the Service Music section are represented: the Lord’s Prayer, the Magnificat, the Nunc Dimittis, the Canticles, etc., with a Gregorian Chant version,

a Simplified and/or full Anglican Chant version, a traditional Anglican composed arrangement, a metrical hymn, and a folk/contemporary arrangement for each topic. The structure of the Service Music section is coordinated with the 2019 Book of Common Prayer. We have planned the Service Music to carefully and creatively address the diverse musical needs of Protestant liturgical congregations.
